How do we introduce Kai to Mum or Dad?
You tell them first, in your own words. Then Kai makes a short hello call: it says it’s an AI, explains what it does and asks if they’d like a call each morning. Nothing starts unless they say yes.
What if they don’t like it?
They can tell Kai to stop or change the time whenever they like, and you can pause or cancel in a tap. The first 14 days are free.
Is my parent talking to a real person?
No. They talk to a friendly AI voice, and it tells them so. It’s patient, it remembers what they said yesterday and it never rushes them.
What if something is really wrong?
If they sound unwell or confused, mention a fall, you get an alert straight away. Kai is not an emergency service: in an emergency, call 999.
What if they don’t pick up?
Kai tries again a little later. If there’s still no answer, you and anyone else you’ve added get an alert straight away, so someone can check in.
Can the rest of the family see the notes?
Yes. Add brothers, sisters or a trusted neighbour. Everyone sees the same note and to-do list, and anyone can pick up a task.
How is Kai different from an AI companion?
Companion services aim to keep your parent chatting for a long time. Kai keeps it short and useful: a warm check-in, a note for you, and a list of what they need, each with a ready solution. It doesn’t replace your call. It means your call can be about the good stuff.
Do they need a smartphone or the internet?
No. Any phone that rings will do, landline or mobile. Everything you need is on your phone.
Who pays for the things they ask for?
You do, with your own card, only after you approve each one. Kai never holds their money or yours, and never asks them about money, codes or passwords.
What happens to what they say?
Notes go only to the family members you add. No one at Kai listens to calls, except to check an alert or if you ask us to. Your parent can ask for anything to be left out of the note, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time. We follow UK data protection law and never sell or share what they tell us.
Who is Kai not for?
Kai isn’t a medical or emergency service and doesn’t replace care. It works best for parents who live independently and enjoy a chat on the phone. It isn’t suitable for advanced dementia.
When can we start?
We’re starting with a small group of families in early 2027. Join the list and we’ll be in touch with a start date. Joining is free and commits you to nothing.
